Officer pleads guilty in collision that killed 7 sailors.

A junior officer on the destroyer USS Fitzgerald has pleaded guilty to a dereliction of duty charge in connection with a collision that killed seven sailors last year, the Navy announced Tuesday.

Lt. j.g. Sarah Coppock will forfeit a half-month’s pay for three months and receive a punitive letter as punishment, according to a Navy statement.

“Our Sailors personify honor, courage, and commitment,” the statement read, in part. “The Navy will not accept complacency, negligence, or other behaviors contrary to its core values.”

According to the Navy Times, Coppock was serving as officer at the deck at the time the Fitzgerald struck a commercial ship off the coast of Japan early on the morning of June 17. She was accused of failing to follow the commanding officer’s standing orders and international navigation rules.

In August, the Navy announced that the Fitzgerald’s commanding officer, Cmdr. Bryce Benson, would be removed from duty, along with the ship’s second-in-command and the top senior enlisted sailor.

A Navy report released in November found that the Fitzgerald was at fault for the collision.

“In the 30 minutes leading up to the collision, neither Fitzgerald nor [the commercial ship] Crystal took such action to reduce the risk of collision until approximately one minute prior to the collision,” the report said.

The report added that Fitzgerald’s officer of the deck, now identified as Coppock, “intended to take no action” in the minutes leading up to the collision until realizing it was “too late.”

“The Officer of the Deck, the person responsible for safe navigation of the ship, exhibited poor seamanship by failing to maneuver as required, failing to sound the danger signal and failing to attempt to contact CRYSTAL on Bridge to Bridge radio. In addition, the Officer of the Deck did not call the Commanding Officer as appropriate and prescribed by Navy procedures to allow him to exercise more senior oversight and judgment of the situation,” the report said.

A Navy spokesman declined to tell the Navy Times whether Coppock would be discharged from service, telling the publication: “As of right now, she remains on active duty.”

Florida widow arrested for the murder of husband after 18yrs.

The widow of a man who was reported missing in 2000 after supposedly going on a hunting trip alone was arrested Tuesday after she was indicted on a first-degree murder charge.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement officers arrested Denise Williams, 48, at her Florida State office, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. Williams also faces a count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and a count of being an accessory after the fact, state attorney Jack Campbell said.

Williams was booked into Leon County Jail and was being held without bail.

Mike Williams disappeared in December 2000 after he supposedly went duck hunting alone on a lake near Tallahassee. Williams’ body wasn’t initially found after an extensive search in and around Lake Seminole and a theory spread that he was eaten by an alligator.

The theory was debunked when Williams’ body was discovered in December 2017, buried under muck near a boat landing in Tallahassee, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

“Oh, my gosh,” Clay Ketcham, Mike Williams’ boss and friend, told the newspaper. “I never thought this day would get here. It’s horrible. But it’s a feeling of coming to resolution.”

The case had been considered suspicious for years. Brian Winchester, another friend of Mike Williams, helped him write a $1 million insurance policy before he disappeared. Five years later, Winchester married Denise Williams.

Winchester was charged with kidnapping Denise Williams at gunpoint. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Authorities discovered Mike Williams’ body a day after Winchester was sentenced.

It’s unclear whether anyone else will be charged in the murder. Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent Mark Perez praised the efforts of investigators.

"We’ve had this case for 15 years, and the relentless effort in working with prosecutors and then ultimately the grand jury in bringing those responsible for Mike Williams’ [death] to justice is a great reward," Perez said. "Hopefully, this will bring peace and resolution to the Williams family.”

Denise Williams was expected to be arraigned Wednesday.

Four police officers dead.

At least six people including four police cadets have been killed in a ghastly motor accident on Kano-Kaduna Expressway on Sunday.

Confirming the incident in Zaria, Kaduna State, the Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Zaria, Muktar Zubairu, described the incident as unfortunate and pathetic.

He said the accident involved two vehicles; a J5 bus with registration number: KMC 274 YW and a Volkswagen Golf which was burnt to ashes occurred around Kwanar Likoro close to Tashar Yari.

According to him, the two vehicles had a head-on-collision and subsequently burst into flames due to presence of a generating machine inside one of the vehicles.

He attributed the cause of the accident to ongoing road rehabilitation on Zaria-Kano road that forced motorists to use one lane, thereby leading to series of accidents.

He said the deceased cadets, three males and a female, were on their way to Zaria, Kaduna State from Wudil in Kano State for a break.

Three confirmed dead and five others injured early this morning.

Three confirmed dead and five others injured after two vehicles collided at Alakara on the Owode-Idiroko highway the early hours of today.

The President to embark on a UK trip

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday embark on a four-day medical trip to the United Kingdom.

According to a statement on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President’s trip is at the instance of his doctor.

He said Buhari would return to the country on Saturday.

The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari will tomorrow (Tuesday) undertake a four-day trip to the United Kingdom. “In the course of the technical stop-over for aircraft maintenance in London on his way back from Washington last week, the President had a meeting with his doctor. “The doctor requested the President to return for a meeting, which he agreed to do.

Why I jumped out of the vehicle -- Dino Melaye

“According to Melaye, while they were in the vehicle going to Lokoja at the Area1 intersection round about the police tear gassed him two times when he protested as to why they were now taking him to Lokoja instead of Abuja FCT they tear gassed him twice and as soon as the car came to a stand still at the roundabout he forced open the bus door and jumped down because he was now gasping for breadth so that he would not suffocate and the video went viral that they want to kill him by taking to Lokoja.

“Because of that his sympathizers and boys who gathered including his lawyers took him to Zankli Hospital and it was from the hospital that the police again came and bundled him to the National Hospital Abuja where they chained him to the bed like a common criminal. So the question is if someone were to escape from justice would he be in the hospital. So we have to counter this false allegation.

The National Hospital that the chief judge said he should be taken to make two recommendations that this man is an asthmatic patient and has serious spinal cord injury. And that he needs to come back on the 9th for further examination, his national passport has already been deposited.”

Buhari won’t win in 2019 – Pastor Adegboye

Pastor Gabriel Adegboye, the senior pastor of Worksword of God Church has said that God told him President Muhammadu Buhari will rule Nigeria for only four years. “God sent me to become the next president of Nigeria. Over the years, God has been speaking to me and I have been communicating to past presidents, even the incumbent president, concerning the way to resolve the crisis in the country and ensure economic development. God has given me the new agenda for this country.

We have all it takes to take the presidential seat come 2019. God has revealed to me that the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari is only four years. And the next person that will take over the mantle of leadership is Pastor Gabriel Adegboye.

If the Federal Government needs solution to the challenges in the country today, if I am invited, I promise that within three months, there will be peace in the North-East,” Adegboye said.

Officer being investigated over the shooting of a suspect Months later

KETTERING, Ohio — Police are investigating an Ohio suburban community's second fatal shooting of a suspect by an officer in a year.

Kettering Police Lt. Michael Gabrielson says police were responding to a suspicious-person report at an apartment complex in the Dayton suburb at 11:10 p.m. Saturday. The officer entered the building and a short while later reported shots fired.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office on Sunday the 6th of May identified the man who died as 24-year-old Mitchell Simmons. The officer was not injured.

In December, a grand jury declined to indict Officer Jonathon McCoy in the fatal shooting of an armed man during a traffic stop. McCoy shot 33-year-old Jason Hoops on August 27 after authorities say Hoops refused repeated orders to put his hands on the vehicle's dash.

Armoured truck blesses commuters with $600,000.

SOMETIMES it really pays to get to work on-time. That was the case Wednesday morning, when a Brinks truck showered commuters in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA with approximately $600,000 in cash.

The incident occurred when a rear door opened as the truck was traveling on Interstate 70.

Bags and bundles of money, along with loose bills, came showering out of the truck before it could come to a stop.

The driver apparently only learned what was going on when another driver waved at him and pointed to the back of the armoured truck.

Police rushed to the scene and tried to collect as much money as possible.

Several other drivers got down from their vehicles and helped themselves to as much of the cash as they could.

Residents of the adjacent neighbourhood also reportedly scaled a highway fence to grab money.

While it sounds like a chance of a lifetime to earn a quick buck  or entire bag of cash  on the way to work, these ‘lucky’ commuters could be in for a rude awakening.

That money comes with a price, since taking it is technically theft.

A state trooper said video from the scene will be used to spot the license plates of anyone who picked up money.

Michigan Police Department refer to themselves as "POPO".

Last week, the police department posted a cutesy little photo on their Facebook page, stating they replaced the name “police” with “popo” on their cars, as an effort to connect better with the youngsters. Because they all know we’re still living in 1990 and use the term.

“We are still struggling to really reach the younger folk out there. So in an effort to bridge that gap, we’ve decided to update out patrol car graphics in an attempt to be more relatable to the local youths,” the Facebook post stated.

When was the last time you heard someone refer to the cops as the “popo”? When was the last time you heard someone say they’re using Microsoft Paint? Those are the only two relevant questions to ask Michigan’s Bath Township Police Department, who thought it was a good idea to joke about fixing community relations with the youth, with the help of the relic of a computer program and an archaic word.

Let’s look at some of the replies to their post:

No Way!! Changing the name on the car lowers your intelligence. These people can’t speak proper English and instead of blaming parents and schools, you
change the “police” graphic. Why don’t you just put it in Russian, “ПОЛИЦЯ”..than they still can’t read it...Sorry, try pulling me over with that...its not legal and you know it!!
So, you are proudly owning the term Pissed Off Police Officer (POPO)?
Damn, that’s not a good look for the community you SERVE.
Utterly ridiculous. Funny joke if CGI/photoshopped. Dont stoop to their level. Next you will have Officers, Deputies, Troopers studying EBONICs. Hell to the No, how bout that!!

Happening now in Synagogue, a certain lady takes loan twice for me, big boy internet fraudster confesses.

A certain Samuel Obi confesses to being a fraudster after been healed of a severe neck injury two weeks ago by the Prophet T.B Joshua.

A week after he was healed the man of God called him out from the congregation "You've lived a bad life in the past, you've lived a conman, your close friend is currently serving jail term".

Samuel confirmed the words of the pastor to be true and decided today to let the church know how he lived his 'bad life in the past'. He also said he was into drugs in South Africa but later moved to Malaysia to learn something new as doing drugs wasn't paying enough.

He claims to have acquired luxury cars and big houses from fraudulent activities.

Taylor Swift proved her heart is as big as her voice.

Singer Taylor Swift proved her heart is as big as her voice, when she paid a young Valley burn victim a surprise visit in the hospital Saturday.

Eight-year-old Isabella McCune suffered severe burns over more than half of her body after a fire erupted at a neighborhood party in March.

Isabella is a huge Taylor Swift fan.

In fact, she listens to Swift's music to get through the pain of daily bandage changes.

Isabella had hoped to go to Swift's concert next week in Glendale, but she can't leave the hospital.

This week, Isabella made a video to send to Swift.

In the video, she says "I wanted to go to your concert, but I can't because I'm in the hospital."

"I heard you were here," Isabella continued in the video. "I wanted to visit you, but maybe you can come and visit me."

Well, her wish came true!

Though Isabella has been vocal about her love for Swift — her mother tells PEOPLE that her favorite song is reputation cut “…Ready for It?” — she had no idea Swift was coming until she saw her walk into her room in a hospital gown.

“She was so shocked! She was speechless. She was so happy,” says Lilly. “We were hoping for it but we didn’t want to get her hopes up. When we found out, we felt it was best to keep it a secret.”

Making the experience even more touching for the McCune family — including Isabella’s dad JD and brother Zachary — was meeting Swift’s parents.

“Her parents came too and they were the sweetest people, and it meant so much to my husband and me as parents,” says Lilly. “We have so much respect for them and how they raised her.”

In the seven weeks since Isabella’s nightmare began, the brave child has undergone 11 operations, including skin grafting on the 50 percent of her body that was burned.

“The hardest part is to hear and see her in pain,” Lilly says of her little girl. “When she coughs, it hurts her back. Coughing, yawning or sneezing is painful. Going to the bathroom is excruciating. The simplest things we take for granted are so painful for her. She’s been so strong. I don’t know where she gets the strength from.”

Fayemi Blamed For Disruption Of Ekiti APC Governorship Primary.

Senator Babafemi Ojudu, one of the aspirants for the All Progressives Congress, APC ticket for the July Ekiti gubernatorial election has blamed former governor of the state and current Minister of Mines and Steel, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for the violence that broke out during the primary to select the flag bearer of the party on Saturday.

The primary to select one of the 33 aspirants for the APC gubernatorial ticket was suspended after hoodlums disrupted the voting process over allegation that it was being manipulated by agents of one of the aspirants.

Speaking after the primaries was suspended, Ekiti Rebirth Organization (ERO), the campaign organization of Ojudu who is believed to be one of the leading aspirants , maintained that the election was going on peacefully until thugs it claimed were loyal to Fayemi invaded the voting section and began to smash ballot boxes.

"The gubernatorial primary was going on smoothly and the delegates were already casting their votes before thugs allegedly loyal to former governor of the state and current Minster of Mines and Steel, Dr Kayode Fayemi, smashed some ballot boxes leading to the disruption of the process", said Gboyega Adeoye, spokesperson of ERO.

Gboyega said the action led to abrupt end of the primaries with delegates and party members scampering for safety.

The campaign organization also asserted that Fayemi had instigated massive deployment of police officers to the streets of Ekiti , a situation which led to restriction of movement across the state capital days before the primary.

"Ekiti State has been under siege preparatory to the primaries as ferocious looking armed mobile policemen that came in company of the Minister, seized all the major streets for days, in reckless display of show of oppression and terror."

Gboyega also maintained that the former governor has previously promised to violently get the party ticket.

Ojudu and his campaign team, however stressed that they are ready to contain the excessses of Fayemi.

They also stated that the people of Ekiti have shown they would not support the former governor in compromising democracy in the state and Fayemi now knows he does not have Ekiti in his pocket.

Canada to stop Nigerians from coming to the country.

Canadian officials in Nigeria are working with the U.S. on developing tools to flag Nigerians applying for U.S. visas who may be at “high risk” of crossing illegally into Canada across the U.S. border.

So far this year, the majority of illegal migrants arriving in Canada are Nigerians who have recently been issued U.S. travel visas.

“It is apparent that they obtained those visas with the express intent to actually go to Canada,” said Hursh Jaswal, communications director for Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen.

“They land in the United States, where they stay for a very short period of time, and then make their way to Canada.”

That’s why Canada is now working with its American counterparts to try to stop Nigerian travelers to the United States from using their U.S. visas as a ticket to Canada – a practice Jaswal calls an “abuse of U.S. visas for the purpose of asylum.”

Canadian officials in Nigeria are now working directly with their U.S. counterparts to develop assessment indicators that would flag cases “deemed to be high risk,” Jaswal said.

Last year, the majority of irregular migrants who arrived in Canada were Haitian, which was largely attributed to the Trump administration’s decision to lift the temporary protected status for immigrants from Haiti living in the U.S.

“The U.S.A. is not an attractive place to most Nigerians right now. It used to be the most attractive place, but with the Trump factor – the old-style immigration climate in the U.S. compared to Canada – most people are going to find their way to Canada.”

Jean-Nicolas Beuze, president of the United Nations high commissioner for refugees in Canada, disagreed with the “Trump factor” theory, saying he believes the influx of Nigerian refugee claimants is more closely related to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s more welcoming messaging about immigrants.

Many Nigerians face persecution for their sexual orientation and women face high rates of domestic violence from their partners, as well as the threat of genital mutilation. Canada’s more progressive laws and attitudes towards these populations make it a more desirable place to live, Beuze said.

“They think that Canada will be a country where they will receive asylum and where they feel they will be able to integrate and resume a normal life, far away from persecution.”

Individuals and families fleeing from the violence and oppression of Nigeria are well versed in Canada’s immigration laws and have likely seen the statistics showing Nigerian refugee claimants have a 35 percent success rate in having their claims accepted, Olalere said.

That’s why he believes the flow of migrants from Nigeria may not soon be over. “I don’t see this ending any time soon.”

Meanwhile, a U.S. State Department spokesperson said Monday work is ongoing to improve screening processes for American visas, keeping in mind a need to balance safety and protection concerns with legitimate travel and immigration to the United States.

However, no changes have yet been made to the U.S. visa application process.

Buhari speaks on bid for second term come 2019

The President in Daura
President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday in Daura, Katsina State said that his decision to seek a second term in office was borne out of a deep passion to serve Nigerians, and not for personal gains.

President Buhari, was also quoted as saying that the passion to serve and see real changes in the lives of Nigerians informed his choice to join partisan politics in the first place, and inspired him to contest elections in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.‎

“I am not in politics for fun, frivolity or to amass wealth, I have always been driven by a deep sense of commitment to make a difference to the lives of our people.

“After my retirement from the army, or forceful retirement, I sat back and watched as events unfolded on the political turf, and realised the country needed an intervention for fairness, justice and inclusion of Nigerians in the issues that affect their lives,’’ he said.

Buhari added that the driving force for seeking public office should be to serve the people, and see their lives improved, not for frivolity or personal ambition.

The President called for patience, maturity and orderliness as the 2019 elections’ calendar begins to unfold, urging political parties, candidates and the electorate to put the country first and always remember that victory ultimately belongs to God.

“After going to the court so many times to challenge results of elections in 2003, 2007 and  2011,  and going up to the Supreme Court, I concluded that ultimately it is God who determines who will win elections, and in 2015 I got here,’’ he added.

In his remarks, the Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari, said the process of electing the leaders of the party at the ward level was hitch-free, orderly and based on the constitution of the APC.

“What we have here are our leaders that were chosen based on consensus and we are happy that it reflects the will of the people and the APC constitution. We followed the process to also ensure that there is affirmation,’’ he said.

The Vice President is a Liar! Tell Osibanjo To Stop Lying, GEJ.

Pastor Adeboye and Osinbajo
Former President Goodluck Jonathan had reportedly asked the General Over Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG to tell Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to stop lying over allegations that he looted the country dry when he served as Nigerian president.

ThisDay newspaper in a report, allegedly based on a statement from the former president’s media office reported that Jonathan asked Adeboye who was a senior pastor of his RCCG to tell the Vice President to stop lying in respect his pastoral calling.

The former president said Osinbanjo has been peddling falsehood against his person and had ‘repeatedly ignored warnings asking him to stop his nasty habit of lying”

Jonathan’s immediate grouse was the allegation by the vice president at The Platform, a programme organized by the Covenant Christian Centre in Lagos last Tuesday that three unnamed persons stole $3 billion (N1 trillion) his administration.

But the former President also noted that Osinbajo had earlier also last month alleged that his government shared N150 billion two weeks to the 2015 elections while it spent a paltry N14 billion on agriculture in 2014; N15 billion on transportation and only N153 billion on infrastructure in three years.

Jonathan claimed that Osinbajo had also falsely alleged that he took N100 billion from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in cash to his personal house in Abuja.

But he noted that the vice president was unable to provide evidence to back up his claims when he was asked to do so.

Calling the vice president, a liar Jonathan said,  “the vice president is a liar, forgetting or perhaps not caring that the devil is the father of all liars. I challenge him once again to prove me wrong by mentioning those three people and providing proof that they stole the amounts allegedly stolen.

“It is sad that at a time when the Buhari administration should be telling Nigerians what they have achieved after three years, they continue to blame and point fingers. The reason for this is because neither Buhari nor Osinbajo can point to any project that they have initiated, started and completed in three years,” he said.

Selena Gomez Sends a Justin Bieber Amid Reports She Still Cares "Very Deeply" ?

The Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber saga continues. According to a new report, Gomez apparently misses her ex-boyfriend, and still thinks about him a lot.

Gomez is gearing up for the release of her new single, "Back to You," and fans are speculating about whether the song might actually be about her on-off relationship with Bieber.

And to help promote the single, Gomez just shared a photo on Instagram, along with the suggestive caption, "I wanna hold you when I’m not supposed to…" which HollywoodLife suggests is a line from the new song.

HollywoodLife also reports that Gomez still cares about her ex, and that "she thinks about him all the time." So, could Gomez's new single, and her latest Instagram, be directed at the ladies man ?

Earlier this week, a source allegedly close to Gomez told HollywoodLife, "Selena still cares for Justin very deeply. He will always be her first real love, and she thinks about him all the time." And that's not all. Apparently Gomez still listens to Bieber's music, despite the fact that they're no longer dating.

As the source tells HollywoodLife, "Selena thinks he is one of the most talented guys she has ever known, and she listens to his music almost every day. Even though things between them aren't perfect right now, hearing his songs keeps him close to her heart."

Seeing as Bieber has apparently "learned quickly that Selena is irreplaceable and what he really needs is to be back with her" (via HollywoodLife), a Jelena reunion doesn't seem so impossible anymore.

Former United States of America’s Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell Warnings to Nigerian Government.

Former United States of America’s Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, has warned the federal government to tread cautiously in the way it is handling the case of the spiritual leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky,

He also warned that El-Zakzaky’s ongoing trial could worsen the nation’s security.

In a piece titled, “Nigeria’s Treatment of Shia Minority Recalls That of Boko Haram,” posted on the website of the American think-tank organisation, the Council on Foreign Relations, the former envoy said “there is an escalating conflict between Nigeria’s Shia minority, some of whom are organised into the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), and Nigeria’s secular government” that has been largely overlooked by the Western media.

“The current focus is the eight charges of murder brought by Kaduna State against IMN leader Ibrahim el-Zakzaky, whom the government has detained for two years without charge. Complicating the issue is the Iranian government, which has periodically protested el-Zakzaky’s confinement.

“Beginning in April, there have been daily protests in Abuja and cities in the north against el-Zakzaky’s continued detention. According to the Nigerian media, some of these demonstrations have turned violent and the capital has occasionally been ‘shut down.’ The demonstrations may have provoked the Kaduna State authorities to formally charge el-Zakzaky with murder; if convicted, he could face the death penalty.”

The former US envoy pointed out alleged similarities between the way the founder of Boko Haram, Mohammed Yusuf, was treated and the manner el-Zakzaky’s case is being handled.

He said federal, not state, authorities are holding el-Zakzaky in custody, “and federal spokesmen have said that he cannot be released until the Kaduna State judicial process is completed.

“In December 2015, el-Zakzaky and his IMN group were accused of attempting to assassinate the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, when they blocked his convoy. Following that, the Nigerian Army attacked IMN facilities, killing hundreds of people, including members of el-Zakzaky’s family while the MIN leader and his wife were seriously wounded and arrested.

“The Zaria episode is in some ways similar to the 2009 clash between the army and followers of Mohammed Yusuf in Maiduguri, which led to Yusuf’s death and to the emergence of Boko Haram in its present form. But unlike Mohammed Yusuf, el-Zakzaky has not been murdered by the police.

“Advocacy of violence aside, there are striking ideological similarities between IMN and Boko Haram, at least for outside observers. Both see the secular state as evil; both want an Islamic state based on Islamic law, and both want the end to Western influence, including in education. Both also seek the end of northern Nigeria’s traditional political and religious elite. “For IMN, the model appears to be the aspirations of the post-revolutionary Iranian Islamic state. Boko Haram’s vision appears more nebulous and less developed, but both try to function as a state-within-state.”

Warning the federal government further, the former American ambassador to Nigeria noted: “El-Zakzaky has claimed to have followers ranging from a few hundred thousand to three million. Whatever IMN’s numbers, it has demonstrated the ability to shut down Abuja, if only for a few days at a time. Were el-Zakzaky to be tried, convicted, and executed-the worst-case scenario-Abuja could very well face the ‘black swan’ of an insurrection.”
